Big London Biggin Hill Executive Handling

AIRPORTS / EUROPE / PROFILES | 23/10/2016

Just 12 miles south of the city center, London Biggin Hill (BQH) is the closest business airport to London. To make it even more convenient, the airport also offers a heli-shuttle service, cutting the transfer down to just six minutes.

For business aviation, Biggin Hill is one of the leading options for operating into London. Recently recognized as a 20-year customer of Air BP, it has a distinguished history that includes its famed role in World War II as a key base for Spitfires and Hurricanes fighting the Battle of Britain.

The airport is located south of the city, within the M25 orbital motorway, to the south of London City Airport and north of Gatwick. Recent major investment has included expansion of its terminal building, new hangarage for business jets up to BBJ size, more aircraft parking and an upgraded taxiway lighting system.

Service & Standards

International-standard FBO operations on site include Signature and BHA Executive Handling. The extensive hangarage at the airport houses more than 50 business aircraft and 200 general aviation aircraft, and construction of a new full-size 60,000 sq ft hangar is currently in the works.

Bombardier is establishing a service center at the airport and other authorized service center approvals are on hand for Dassault and Textron (with JETS), BAe (Avalon Aero), Learjet (Zenith Aviation) and AgustaWestland, Sikorsky and Bell (Castle Air). RAS Completions provides painting and interior completions with specific approvals from Gulfstream and Bombardier.

Stay here, stay there, stay everywhere!

Biggin Hill is the closest business airport to central London, being just 12 miles south of the center. The airport hosts the London Heli-Shuttle service, provided by Castle Air’s Agusta A109s, for a six minute transfer to the London downtown Heliport, from which a passenger can take the complimentary limo service to their final London destination.

Staying on the ground, access to the city is by taxi service (50 minutes) or by using the Lloyds of Bromley Biggin Hill Chauffeur Service. Alternatively, there is an executive terminal shuttle to transfer to the non-stop rail service from Bromley South station, which connects into Victoria Station. For those connecting to other destinations, charter service is available from locally-based Zenith Aviation using the Citaton XLS and newly delivered Learjet 75s.

Several local hotels are available in Croydon and Bromley for overnight stays, each offering convenient rail service into London. However, the real-star will be the new 50-bedroom, 4-star hotel with a restaurant and conference center planned to be built on the airport’s south side, with construction starting in Q1-2017.

The airport offers free car parking for up to 200 cars adjacent to the executive terminal. Operationally, Biggin Hill is open from 06:30 to 22L00 (09:00 to 20:00 on weekends), but these times are expected to be expanded soon. It can handle aircraft up to Boeing BBJs and Airbus ACJ business jets. There are no scheduled airline services into the airport, and the terminal is dedicated to General Aviation with a crew lounge and rooms available for meetings.

The BHA Executive Handling Service provides all ground handling and fully-staffed facilities for weather information and flight planning. It is a designated UK Port of Entry with customs and immigration and UK Special Branch on hand. There is also full security screening for passengers and baggage.

Ops Intel

The airport has no slot restrictions, and fuel (Jet-A and AvGas) is provided by Air BP, which has the airport as one of its key fuel partners.

Extensive aircraft parking is at the terminal and at remote ramps for long-term layovers. Security includes CCTV and 24-hour security staff.
